When you or one of your family members is in pain, you need a same-day emergency dentist who can see you straightaway for a walk-in appointment. At Hawthorn Smiles Dental, we offer fast and affordable dental care for all ages.
Tooth Pain — A toothache can be one of the most painful conditions you’ll ever experience. Sharp jolting pain or a chronic ache are your body’s signal that something is wrong. Get fast pain relief from our family dentist, since toothaches never resolve themselves on their own.
Abscessed Teeth — Dental abscesses can appear to come and go, with small fistulas (pimples) at the gumline of the affected tooth. They’re caused by infected tooth nerves and require endodontic (root canal) treatment to avoid tooth loss.
Knocked Out or Broken Teeth — Some of the most common athletic injuries include broken and knocked-out teeth. In these situations, seeing our family emergency dentist is something you need to do as quickly as possible. To save your tooth, we need to see you within the first hour. Be sure to store your broken tooth fragment in a sealed container, submerged in contact solution or milk.
Crown or Filling Falling Out — Older restorations have been known to occasionally fall out when eating hard or sticky foods. To reduce your risk of this happening, be sure to see our Hawthorn dentists for regular exams. But if it does, store your crown in a zip-top bag and bring it to our office to see if it can be recemented. Avoid chewing on that side of your mouth, as your tooth will be more prone to fracturing. In most cases, a new restoration will be needed.
A dental emergency is any situation that prevents you from eating, going to work, or sending your child to school. Whether you’re in pain or have an embarrassing situation (such as a broken front tooth) we urge you to contact us immediately for the next available appointment to receive urgent care.
If possible, stay calm. If there is any bleeding, apply slight pressure using a clean cloth or gauze until it subsides. Heavy, uncontrollable bleeding will require immediate medical attention.
Next, locate any broken tooth fragments. If you have a fully avulsed (knocked out) tooth, you can attempt to reinsert it into the socket. If the tooth must be removed, you may be in need of a tooth extraction.
